A CREATIVE DIRECTOR CAPTURING THE CO-EXISTENCE

BETWEEN HUMANS & NATURE

Hi, my name is
Anie Los Kawm Khang!

ANIEk-01.png

Gifted the name that means “to learn,” I use my Hmong name to represent my work and brand.

I am passionate about sustainability and political theory and I use my academic background in Political Science to help advance my creative and personal goals. My mission is to create art that is sustainable and thought-provoking in hopes to educate and help people reach their own understanding of what it means to have to a proper relationship with nature.

I have been a creative director for as long as I can remember and have recently started my photography journey. It has been a fun transition from being the director to being the photographer who executes the idea via film. My goal is to do more wildlife photography, creative direction projects centered around nature advocacy and political theory, nature and creative workshops, and to travel to see all the lakes and landscapes of Minnesota.

My portfolio consists of portraits, fur baby portraits, fun creative headshots, and radical nature projects.

los kawm was founded in 2025.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

My favorite foods are burgers and cheesecakes.

The trip that changed the entire trajectory of my life was visiting the Backbone of the World (Glacier National Park).

I have an obsession with fun and colorful button up shirts along with collecting fun hair clips.

My Vision & Beliefs

As a Creative Director, I collaborate with local and emerging artists, models, photographers, and other creatives to bring art to life that expresses my creative and educational ideas.

P.S. This is my logo and it’s designed to represent all the different factors (nature, education, & photography) of my role as a Creative Director.

NATURE AS MY FOCUS

We are all a part of the natural world and so it only makes sense to center nature as the medium for my work. The natural world is full of wonder and inspiration. As a human who is alive and living in this natural realm, I am allowed to create work that is sustainable, meaningful, and wondrous.

EDUCATION MATTERS

My educational background is in political science and I love political/social theory. Theory has taught me to view the world from a critical, realistic, and articulative perspective. My goal is to create art that captures theoretical concepts which can help people understand these complex themes. I want to encourage people to learn more about how we can use theory to make foundational change in our lives and in our community.

BEING AUTHENTIC

I am human and I am aware of how often I make mistakes. As flawless as I like my work to be, I am personally not perfect or put together as I want to be. Therefore, I present myself to others in my most authentic version, which is the person that I am now, whoever that person may be at the moment. With that being said, I also encourage others that walk into my creative space to be their most authentic selves.

RIP-OFF: THE MISCONCEPTIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY

RIP-OFF: THE MISCONCEPTIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY got its name from my observation of how uneducated, unaware, and uncaring humans are about the way that we are impacting Earth. I wanted this project to educate and bring awareness to viewers about the negative impacts that human consumerism has on biodiversity, climate, waterways, animals/insects, and ultimately, human life. Each curated look discusses these consequences with the last look providing insight on how co-existence with nature is possible through education, accountability, and political/human action.

A huge thank you to Studio Apparatus for sharing their space with me and my team to create art that means the world to me. Thank you to all the models worked with my awkward self, in believing my vision, and for your encouragement. Thank you to my team for putting up with me, helping me put together all the sets, and for being the best hype squad a little shy Asian girlie can ask for.

Most importantly, thank you to Mother Nature for being the biggest inspiration in making this project possible. Your resilience, kindness, and grace knows no bounds and I am grateful to be able to bask in your beauty.
